Player Spotlight

Nov. 17, 2025

For seven years, Zach Donovan has proudly worn Cubs colours, stepping onto the field as #15 and anchoring the outfield—especially in centre, where he feels most at home. Baseball has become more than a sport for Zach; it’s the place where he shows up every day with his “brothers,” eighteen teammates who are ride-or-die for each other. It’s the grind, the friendships, and even the failures that keep him coming back. To Zach, the beauty of baseball is that it is a game of failure—because every small victory becomes that much sweeter.

One of those unforgettable victories came in 15U, when he hit his first home run. It was a moment he never thought he’d experience, and the feeling of rounding the bases that day has stayed with him ever since.

Zach looks up to MLB outfielder George Springer, not just for his talent, but for the way he carries himself. He admires Springer’s dedication, leadership, and the joy he brings to the game—a constant reminder that baseball should always be fun. That outlook has shaped how Zach plays and how he sees the sport.

The best advice Zach has ever received is that baseball isn’t about comparing yourself to the next guy. Everyone has their own style—unique stances, different arm slots, different strengths. The important thing is to discover your own game and trust it. You don’t need to hit towering home runs to prove your value; getting on base and finding your role is just as important.

When he steps up to the plate, Zach walks out to “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac, usually leading off or hitting in the top three of the lineup. After games, you’ll often find him and the guys at Tim’s, grabbing food and talking through the highs and lows of practice or the game they just played.

This season, Zach has his sights set on hitting the 40-hit mark again—another milestone in a baseball journey built on hard work, team loyalty, and the simple love of the game.
