Peter Hildebrand

Peter Hildebrand is a BAEL Assistant Coach who also works alongside Coach Jamie in the JM Elite Winter Program. He has spent six years coaching with the Calgary Cubs and was the assistant coach of the 2023 team that won Alberta Zones in Okotoks.

Peter’s own playing career took him through several programs before he joined the Calgary Cubs in his second year of 15U. He went on to compete at the Midget AAA level, playing both as a pitcher and an outfielder. His career highlights include winning the 15U AAA Provincials—an achievement that now stands alongside the fulfillment he has found through coaching.

His coaching philosophy centers on meeting players where they are in their development. With younger athletes, he focuses on creating a safe, supportive environment where players feel comfortable approaching coaches with questions or concerns, while fostering a love and respect for the game and building individual skills. With older players, he emphasizes accountability, effort, and teamwork—encouraging athletes to give 100% for themselves and their teammates. Open communication is a priority for Peter, who believes in honest conversations and works primarily with hitters, outfielders, and pitchers at the higher levels.

Peter began coaching after a hamstring injury and the COVID-19 shutdowns brought his playing career to a close. When Jamie reached out to him and his twin brother Ben to help coach a team, they immediately connected with the role. Peter is driven by his competitive nature, his love of watching players grow both on and off the field, and the relationships formed with athletes, coaches, and families. For him, spending time at the field and being part of the baseball community is truly rewarding.

Although he will not be coaching this upcoming summer while he spends a year in Japan teaching English, Peter’s long-term vision remains focused on helping the program continue to be a place where kids want to play—where they know they will have fun, feel supported, and become better baseball players.

Outside of baseball, Peter enjoys all types of music, loves playing a variety of sports, is passionate about traveling and meeting new people, and proudly embraces his love of fiction and comics.
