18U BAEL
The Calgary Cubs 18U BAEL team is the top high-performance team in our program, competing in Baseball Alberta Elite League against the strongest talent in the province. This program is designed for athletes who are ready to train, compete, and perform at the elite level while preparing for post-secondary and advanced baseball pathways.
This team sets the standard for excellence in Baseball Calgary, high tempo, high accountability, and a commitment to competing the right way every day.
Indoor Winter Training (January-April)
Athletes begin preparing early through structured, elite-level winter training:
- January & February: 1 indoor practice per week
- March & April: 1-2 indoor practices per week
- Delivered in partnership with JM Elite
Winter training focuses on:
- High-performance arm care & velocity programs
- Mound development for pitchers
- Advanced hitting mechanics, cage work & approach
- Infield/outfield positional refinement
- Leadership, baseball IQ & game awareness
These sessions build the foundation needed for a high-calibre provincial season.
Outdoor Practices (April-July)
As soon as weather allows, athletes move outdoors for full-season preparation:
- 3-4 outdoor practices per week
- Held at Heidelberg Playfield Park (formerly Inland Athletic Park)
Outdoor work emphasizes:
- Team systems, communication & elite-level detail
- High-rep defensive work & live game scenarios
- Situational strategy and game-speed execution
- Strength, speed, and athletic development
The outdoor season is structured to prepare athletes for top-tier competition and showcase opportunities.
Tournaments
The 18U BAEL team attends several high-level tournaments each year:
- 3-5 tournaments per season
- Includes an annual trip to the Spokane Wood Bat Classic
- Opportunities for U.S. and high-level Canadian exposure
Tournaments serve as a platform for athletes to compete against strong out-of-province opponents and test their skills in elite environments.
Program Success & Expectations
The 18U BAEL team consistently performs at the top of Baseball Alberta Elite League. Recent accomplishments include:
- 2nd place finish at Provincials
- Representing Alberta at Western Canadian Championships, bringing home silver.
