Calgary Cubs Marcus Nielsen Selected for Brewers Canadian Scout Team at Arizona Senior Fall Classic

Calgary Cubs Grade 12 standout Marcus Nielsen has earned an invitation to represent Canada with the Milwaukee Brewers Canadian Scout Team at the Arizona Senior Fall Classic, an opportunity that will put the versatile 17-year-old in an environment surrounded by some of the top high school baseball talent from across North America.

Nielsen, who primarily plays catcher for the Calgary Cubs, was selected for the Brewers Canadian Scout Team following an impressive 2026 season. A true utility player, he has also contributed around the infield while continuing to develop as a right-handed pitcher.

The Arizona Senior Fall Classic brings together teams and players from a wide geographic area, with competition involving programs representing New Mexico, Alaska, Arizona, Los Angeles, Southern Nevada and California, along with the Brewers Canadian Scout Team.

For Nielsen, the selection provides an opportunity to represent the Calgary Cubs and Canadian baseball in a showcase environment while continuing to build his experience against players from outside Alberta.

His versatility is one of the defining aspects of his game.

Behind the plate, Nielsen has recorded pop times in the 1.90-2.00-second range and has demonstrated a catcher velocity of approximately 77 mph. At the plate, he has produced an exit velocity of 93 mph, showcasing the offensive potential that has accompanied his defensive abilities.

Nielsen has also continued to develop on the mound. The right-hander has recorded pitching velocities between 84 and 86 mph, adding another dimension to his value as a multi-position player.

His production during the 2026 regular season reflects that versatility. Nielsen finished the season with four home runs, 27 RBIs and 32 runs scored, contributing both power and run production to the Cubs' lineup.
