Taylor Bilben Commits to Okanagan College

Taylor Bilben is taking the next step in his baseball journey, committing to Okanagan College where he will study toward a Bachelor of Business Administration while continuing his career on the diamond.

The second baseman, who wears No. 7 in 18U BAEL, said one of the most memorable moments of his baseball career came last season when his team competed at Westerns.

“My most memorable moment as a baseball player so far was going to Westerns last year,” Bilben said. “It was really cool getting to play against good teams and seeing all the hard work from the season paying off. The atmosphere was unreal, and honestly, just being there with the guys made it even better.”

Bilben credits Sean Gaffney and Jamie Mitchell as two of the biggest influences on his development both on and off the field.

“They have shaped me not only as a player, but as a person,” he said. “They’ve pushed me to improve and keep working toward my goals on and off the field.”

Playing with the Calgary Cubs helped prepare Bilben for the collegiate level through strong competition, dedicated teammates, and coaching that emphasized growth and accountability.

“The Calgary Cubs helped me get ready for the next level by pushing me every day and showing me what high-level baseball looks like,” he said.

While excited for the opportunity ahead, Bilben says the friendships and memories built through baseball in Calgary will be what he misses most.

“I’ll definitely miss the guys the most,” he said. “Spending every day together at practice, games, and tournaments made us all really close.”

For younger players hoping to follow a similar path, Bilben’s advice is simple: enjoy the process, work hard, and don’t dwell on bad games.

“Be a good teammate and have fun with the guys because those are the memories you’ll remember the longest,” he said.

On the field, Bilben’s walk-up song is “Hollaback Girl,” and his favourite post game meal is lasagne.
