Big congratulations are in order for Marek Helman, who has officially committed to the Edmonton Collegiate Hawks, marking an exciting next chapter in his baseball journey.
Wearing #22 for the Calgary Cubs, Marek has been a steady presence behind the plate and at third base, known for his grit, consistency, and love of the game. He’ll be continuing both his baseball and academic career with the Hawks while studying Electrical, combining hard work on the field with focus in the classroom.
One of Marek’s most memorable moments came early, blasting a home run at U13 Provincials—a moment that still stands out as a spark in his development. Since then, his growth has been fueled by countless reps, dedication, and what he credits as amazing coaching within Baseball Calgary and the Cubs program.
When asked who’s had the biggest impact on his journey, Marek doesn’t hesitate: his dad and mom, both a huge support and help. That support system, paired with the Cubs’ environment, helped lay the foundation for this next step.
While he’s excited for what’s ahead, Marek says he’ll miss the simple but meaningful moments the most—time with teammates at practice and in the dugout, the kind of memories that define baseball long after the final out.
His advice to younger players reflects the mindset that got him here:
“Just because it feels difficult at the moment doesn’t mean it will always be. You just gotta keep pushing yourself to make yourself better so you have a better chance at success in the future.”
With “Man in the Box” by Alice in Chains setting the tone for his walk-up and ribs as his go-to fuel, Marek is ready for the next challenge.
Congratulations, Marek! The Cubs community is proud of you and can’t wait to see what you accomplish with the Edmonton Collegiate Hawks
