The Calgary Cubs are proud to announce that Alex Cunnington has committed to Prairie Baseball Academy, where he will continue his baseball career while pursuing a degree in Engineering.
An outfielder wearing jersey #11, Alex’s journey with the Cubs has been defined by consistency, growth, and a relentless commitment to improvement. One of his most memorable achievements came during the 2025 season, where he helped lead his team to second place finishes at both Provincials and Westerns—a testament to his competitive drive and team-first mentality.
When asked who has had the biggest impact on his baseball journey, Alex points to Jamie Mitchell, whose guidance and influence helped shape him both on and off the field. Alex also credits the broader Cubs coaching staff for preparing him to take the next step.
“The coaching staff over the years and the lessons I learned through them about baseball and life have really set me up to succeed. Coaches Jamie, Duncan, and Peter have all taught me lessons that will last me a lifetime since I was 12 years old. Baseball is a brotherhood, and the Calgary Cubs are a great family to be a part of.”
Beyond the wins and accomplishments, Alex says what he’ll miss most about playing with the Cubs is the culture.
“The team spirit and the constant urge to keep pushing yourself. Every day with the Cubs you better yourself, and it makes it a blast when you enjoy the coaches and the players around you.”
For younger players looking to follow a similar path, Alex keeps his advice simple and grounded:
“Keep grinding. Take pride in the little things no matter how small or insignificant. And always leave yourself in a position to grow.”
As he prepares for the next chapter at Prairie Baseball Academy, Alex will no doubt bring the same work ethic, humility, and leadership that defined his time with the Cubs. And when he steps into the box, expect to hear his walk-up song—“Time of Our Lives” by Pitbull—setting the tone.
Congratulations, Alex. Once a Cub, always a Cub.
