Duncan Sourisseau - 13U Director and Head Coach
Coach Duncan is originally from Winnipeg, MB where he grew up playing AAA baseball for the North Winnipeg Pirates. He was a member of the provincial team and helped Manitoba beat BC for the first time at the 05’ Canada Cup.
Duncan went on to play college baseball in both Canada and the United States at Valley City St, Prairie Baseball Academy, and LSU - Shreveport. Winning back-to-back league titles and a CCBC tournament with PBA ranks very high on his list of favourite college memories.
After his college career was over in ’09 Duncan began coaching with the Prairie Baseball Academy in Lethbridge, AB. Coaching the infielders as well as being the head JV coach he learned under Coach Hubka and Coach MacDonald. He also was a lead winter camp instructor for 3 years at the PBA winter camps for kids ages 10-18.
Following a move to Calgary, Duncan was the head coach for the 2014 Cochrane Crush mosquito team who won a provincial title. More important than the wins is that many of those kids are still playing baseball today, at Vauxhall Academy, Okotoks, and even with the Cubs 18U team. Duncan moved back to Lethbridge in 2015 where again was involved with the PBA winter camps while also coaching with the Jr. Academy program there. The program was developed to ensure that kids who played a short little league season could get more meaningful games and practices earlier in the year. Duncan coached with the Jr Academy until deciding to permanently relocate back to Calgary in 2019 where he joined the Cubs coaching staff as the Head Coach and Program Director for the 13U age group.
Coach Duncan’s knowledge, love for the game, and competing mixed with his energetic and positive demeanor lends itself well to the 13U age group where young players are learning the intricacies of this game. He is committed to teaching the skills needed to be successful at the next level, while trying to pass on his love for the game to next generation. He believes in coaching up his players and building their confidence as players by encouraging them to try to make plays and never punishing physical mistakes. Those will happen because we are young and should be looked at as learning tools. Duncan has a no swearing rule with his 13U group and you can expect your kid to hear “Aww Sugar” instead on the field this summer.

Chris Grudeski - 18U Director and Head Coach AAA
Coach Chris is from Olds, Alberta where he grew up playing baseball for Olds Minor Baseball in their AA programs. In his second year of Midget Baseball he commuted North to play for the Rocky Mountain House Sundevils AAA program under coaches Harold Northcott and Darcy Warawa. In his last year of Midget Baseball he took the longer commute South to play for the Calgary Cubs Midget AAA program, where their goal of Nationals was ended by 2 runs in Provincial Final. Coach Chris has 8 Baseball Alberta Provincial Championships to his name in a variety of AA and AAA levels, both as a coach and as a player.
After high school graduation Coach Chris went on to get his Education Degree from the University of Alberta, which has lead him to a 9-12 Physical Education position as well as Athletic Director at Hugh Sutherland School in Carstairs. Chris has been coaching since his high school graduation, and has been with the Cubs since the 2017 Season. Chris credits his youth baseball years as to his coaching mentality, as he was fortunate to be picked up by the highest level teams for Provincial Championship runs, as well as Western Canadians. In those years he was able to play for multiple great coaches at all levels each year, and was able to see how multiple different programs were ran. Coach Chris was constantly around high level coaches and players, which allows him to bring personable skills to his players.
The mentality that Chris brings to our 18U program is one that the development of the athlete is the most critical part of coaching. Every player needs to be given the opportunity to be successful and to develop as athletes and as people. Chris works with his players on being mentally strong and always knowing that the physical part of the game is just the start.
